Perhonen

A Play with light and color

This lamp designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1968, originally designed for his experimental studio house to address a genuine need as ceiling plugs were accidentally not fitted. It reached its final commercial form as the 1980s postmodern waves and forms took design by storm.

Perhonen, or Butterfly, plays with light and color, and creates the ideal atmosphere for daydreaming. The adjustable color elements made of plexiglass create an imaginative color palette as light travels through them. Yrjö Kukkapuro’s distinctive design is completed by the key role of the screws that keep the components together.

Yrjö Kukkapuro’s decorative Perhonen (“Butterfly”) table lamp is displaying its wings in two new colors. The latest version of this classic, now in black and white, is the perfect complement to the Perhonen floor lamp, delightful in its feel and rich design.

Perhonen is manufactured by Innolux.
