Plaano

The stylish Plaano chairs are an eye-catching choice for the office

The first versions of the Plaano series saw the light of day in 1974 due to the need of an architect to have a new and never-before-seen furniture series for the hotel he was designing.

In 1973, the world experienced the global oil crisis and also Yrjö Kukkapuro felt the effect of it. As a result of the artistic-economical reassessment it caused, Kukkapuro decided to stop using plastic in his products. The prices of plastic materials had risen high, and the first ecological awakening was prevalent throughout society. As an alternative, Kukkapuro found bent birch plywood. This domestic, renewable material became his trademark for decades to come.

The office chair was a natural addition to the Plaano series. The ergonomics of Plaano are formed with cushions on top of a straight plywood bend.
