Yrjö Kukkapuro, 1997

Tattood chairs started as a joint project between Yrjö Kukkapuro and designer Tapani Aartomaa (1934-2009) when they decided to laminate Kukkapuro’s ”Nelonen” chair, of birch plywood and with armrest, with Aartomaa’s graphics. Since their birth the chairs became an instant talking point and they shuttled between a number of exhibitions around the world. Later on, the chairs were also laminated with patterns created by other designers. Available chairs are Shadow, Lake and Dragon, whose Chinese paper clipping pattern is originally from the collection of Yrjö Kukkapuro’s friend, professor Fang Hai.
